How to Change Jeep Wrangler Tail Light

There are many reasons you may want to remove the old tail light of your favorite Jeep Wrangler. Maybe your existing tail light is damaged and you need to replace it. Or simply you want to replace the light bulb to have a different taste. Whatever the reason is, you can easily replace your tail light by following some simple steps which are discussed below. 

Step 1- Remove the Housing:

To initiate the process, you need to remove the taillight housing first. You can see four screws holding the housing. Here an important thing to remember is you don’t need to remove all of the screws. Just remove two screws on the inner side of the vehicle. 

To do that, you need to use a screwdriver. Turn the screws anticlockwise and they will be removed from the housing. After removing the screws, you need to pull off the housing. Just gently grab it and pull it outwards to get the job done. 

Step 2- Remove the Old Light Bulb:

Inside the housing, you will see two tabs where the light bulbs are located. You need to rotate the tabs anti-clockwise to unlock. After that, you will be able to remove the light bulbs very conveniently. To do that, you need to detach the wirings of the bulb. 

Step 3- Connect the New Light Bulbs:

Now that you have disconnected the existing one, you need to, connect the new bulbs in the specific spots. Be careful when you are doing this. You need to attach the bulb with the chassis and wiring correctly. 

Step 4- Reinstall the Housings:

As you already have inserted the new light bulbs, it is high time to reinstall the housings. Place it in the right spot and insert the screws you removed earlier. Use your screwdriver to screw them again.

However, you may want to mount a guard on the exterior of the housings for its protection. If you want to mount the guard, in that case, you have to follow these additional instructions.

  • First of all, you need to place the rubber stopper and place them on the tail light’s face. As a result, your tail light will remain protected from any scratches. 
  • Take the rear screws and you need to place one washer on top of each screw. Now, you have to install both screws loosely. 
  • Install the front screws and tighten all screws perfectly.
